Cameroon international goalkeeper André Onana and his family have reportedly escaped injury following a serious road accident in Türkiye, offering relief to Trabzonspor supporters after the incident raised concerns about the player’s safety.

The accident reportedly occurred on Thursday, October 22, 2026, as Onana was travelling home following Trabzonspor’s UEFA Conference League fixture against Scottish club Heart of Midlothian FC.

According to reports from Turkish media, the goalkeeper’s vehicle was struck from behind before colliding with another car travelling ahead. The impact reportedly caused significant damage to his vehicle, although Onana and the family members accompanying him escaped without serious injuries.

Turkish police reportedly confirmed that those involved in the incident had been taken for medical examinations as a precautionary measure.

On Friday, Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan sought to reassure supporters about the goalkeeper’s condition, indicating that Onana had not sustained any major injuries.

The incident came shortly after Trabzonspor secured a 2-0 victory over Hearts in the UEFA Conference League league phase. Onana featured in the match and kept a clean sheet as the Turkish side recorded an important European result.

Onana’s future at Trabzonspor

The 30-year-old goalkeeper is at Trabzonspor on loan from Manchester United, having joined the Turkish side in search of regular playing opportunities following a difficult period at Old Trafford.

Onana previously established himself as one of Europe’s prominent goalkeepers during spells at Ajax and Inter Milan before moving to Manchester United in 2023.

His experience at the highest level of European football has made him an important figure for Cameroon, whom he has represented in international competition.

The reported accident has therefore drawn attention from both club supporters and followers of African football, particularly given the potential consequences of such a collision.

With Onana and his family reportedly safe, attention will now turn to his continued involvement with Trabzonspor as the club pursues its domestic and European ambitions.
