APR FC are targeting a historic victory in Egypt as they face Zamalek SC in the second leg of their CAF competition tie on Saturday, October 24, 2026, hoping to overturn a 1-0 first-leg defeat and secure qualification for the group stages.

The Rwandan champions head into the decisive encounter knowing that they must deliver a strong performance away from home against one of Africa’s established clubs. Zamalek secured a narrow victory in Kigali in the first leg, giving the Egyptian side an advantage ahead of the return match in Cairo.

APR FC have long sought to progress beyond the qualifying rounds and establish themselves in the group stages of continental competitions. However, the final qualification hurdle has repeatedly proved difficult, particularly when playing away from home.

Zamalek, who won the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup, will pose a significant challenge as they look to protect their advantage in front of their supporters.

APR FC will, however, welcome the return of Ugandan midfielder Ronald Ssekiganda, who missed the previous two matches after receiving a red card during the first-leg encounter against FC Les Aigles du Congo in Lubumbashi.

His availability offers the Rwandan side an additional option as they seek to improve their performance and overturn the deficit.

History also presents a challenge for APR FC, who have never won a match in Egypt. Their recent encounters with Pyramids FC in Cairo resulted in defeats of 6-1, 3-1 and 3-0.

Saturday’s match therefore offers APR FC an opportunity to break their losing trend on Egyptian soil and take a significant step towards their continental ambitions.

With a place in the group stages at stake, APR FC must overcome both their first-leg deficit and the challenge of playing away from home to keep their CAF campaign alive.
