Barcelona will host Aston Villa on Tuesday, November 2, in a crucial UEFA Champions League match as both sides look to strengthen their positions in the league phase.

The match will be played at Spotify Camp Nou in Barcelona, with kick-off scheduled for 20:00 GMT.

Barcelona enter the contest as favourites, but Aston Villa arrive with an impressive European record and confidence after winning all three of their opening Champions League matches.

Hansi Flick’s Barcelona started their campaign with convincing victories over Feyenoord and Galatasaray before suffering a 4-2 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain. They also lost 2-1 to Real Madrid in El Clasico, ending their perfect start to the La Liga season.

However, the Catalan side bounced back in style on Saturday, defeating Alaves 6-1 to return to the top of the domestic league table.

Teenage sensation Lamine Yamal has been among Barcelona’s standout performers, recording 12 goals and 11 assists in all competitions this season. He scored once and provided an assist in the victory over Alaves.

Aston Villa, meanwhile, have made an excellent start to their European campaign, scoring 12 goals in three matches. They defeated Club Brugge 3-2, Fenerbahce 6-0 and Viking 3-1 to establish themselves among the leading teams in the competition.

Unai Emery’s side will nevertheless face a difficult challenge against Barcelona, who possess significant attacking quality. Villa will also be encouraged by Barcelona’s defensive record, having failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 18 Champions League matches.

According to Opta’s supercomputer, Barcelona have a 72 per cent chance of winning, while Aston Villa have a 12.7 per cent probability of securing an away victory. A draw is projected at 15.3 per cent.

The encounter also carries historical significance. The clubs last met in the European Super Cup final in January 1983, when Aston Villa won 3-1 on aggregate.

Barcelona will be looking to use their home advantage to return to winning ways in Europe, while Villa hope to continue their perfect Champions League start and demonstrate their ability to compete against Europe's elite.
