Former Chelsea and Napoli manager Antonio Conte has dismissed reports linking him with the Manchester United job, describing claims that he demanded full control of the club and specific financial terms as “unfounded.”
The speculation comes as current United manager Michael Carrick faces mounting pressure following a disappointing run of results, including a 4-1 defeat against Como that extended the club’s winless streak to seven matches in all competitions.
Conte, who won the Premier League with Chelsea and guided Napoli to the 2024-25 Serie A title, said he was not involved in advanced negotiations with any club.
“My name has been linked with numerous clubs, but there are currently no negotiations at an advanced stage,” Conte said in a statement.
The 57-year-old explained that he would take time to consider his next managerial move after leaving Napoli, adding that any return would depend on finding the right conditions.
He also rejected reports suggesting he had already made financial demands or requested complete control at potential destinations.
Meanwhile, Brighton and Hove Albion manager Fabian Hurzeler has also been linked with the Manchester United position but insisted his focus remains on his current responsibilities.
“I am really focused on my job here. I have no time to think about these rumours because we play every three days,” Hurzeler said.
The German coach also expressed respect for Carrick, describing him as a great human being and personality.
Brighton have enjoyed an impressive start to the Premier League season, sitting third in the standings ahead of their meeting with Liverpool.
With Manchester United struggling for consistency, speculation over possible managerial changes continues. Carrick will be under pressure to deliver improved performances and restore confidence as questions about his future intensify at Old Trafford.
