25th March 2026, Washington, D.C. - The Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda in the United States has forcefully denied allegations of a security plot targeting a Congolese delegation in Washington, describing the claims as a gross misrepresentation of a minor incident between security personnel at a shared hotel. In an official statement released on X (former Twitter) this Wednesday, the Rwandan Embassy clarified that the friction began when an unarmed member of a Rwandan VIP’s security detail inadvertently encountered security agents from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) delegation. The incident occurred in a hotel hallway accessible to all guests, as both delegations were staying at the same establishment during high-level diplomatic talks. According to the embassy’s account, the situation escalated when DRC security agents physically restrained the Rwandan official from accessing an elevator. The embassy described this as inappropriate and wrong behavior in a common area but noted that the matter was eventually resolved without immediate further escalation. Following the hallway confrontation, the Rwandan party made the decision to change hotels to avoid further friction. However, the embassy reports that the provocation continued during their departure. "As they checked out and departed, the Rwandan party was harassed and filmed by unknown persons," the statement read. Despite these actions, the embassy maintains that the Rwandan team remained restrained and professional, deliberately avoiding any physical or verbal confrontation. The clarification comes in direct response to a press conference held last night by the DRC Minister of Information Patrick Muyaya, during which allegations were made regarding the nature of the encounter. The Rwandan Embassy has categorized these claims as blatant dishonesty and a fabrication of what actually transpired. "There has been gross misrepresentation of what transpired," the statement concluded, urging the public to disregard and condemn the narrative being promoted by DRC government.
