A fire broke out at the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone on Monday following what UAE authorities described as a drone attack originating from Iran, with three Indian nationals sustaining moderate injuries, officials and media reports said.
The Fujairah Media Office said civil defense teams were deployed immediately to contain the blaze at the strategic oil storage and export hub on the Gulf of Oman. The injured workers were taken to hospital for treatment.
In a separate development, the UAE Ministry of Defense said it detected four cruise missiles launched from Iran toward Emirati territory. Three of the missiles were intercepted over UAE territorial waters, while a fourth fell into the sea.
The strikes marked a sharp escalation in regional tensions and came shortly after a period of relative calm following a Pakistan-mediated ceasefire between Washington and Tehran that took effect on April 8, pausing more than two months of hostilities in the Gulf region.
Authorities in Fujairah did not immediately specify the full extent of the damage at the oil facility. The port region, which serves as a key energy export bypassing the Strait of Hormuz, has previously been targeted, including a March 14 drone attack that triggered fires and disrupted some oil-loading operations.
The latest incident also comes amid heightened geopolitical signaling from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy, which recently published maps asserting expanded operational control zones near the Strait of Hormuz. The mapped areas reportedly include waters close to Fujairah, Khorfakkan, and parts of the UAE’s Umm Al Quwain coastline.
Iranian state media and affiliated military channels have not directly commented on the Fujairah incident, though Tehran has continued issuing statements regarding regional security developments.
The UAE urged the public to rely on official sources as emergency operations continued and investigations into the coordinated drone and missile activity were ongoing.
