Beau Neilson, the daughter of South African-born billionaire investor Kerr Neilson and Zimbabwe-born billionaire philanthropist Judith Neilson, has sold her landmark Sydney residence for approximately A$13 million ($8.5 million), almost four times the price she paid for the property in 2012. The property, known as The Pigeon Shed, was originally a rundown industrial warehouse in Sydney's Chippendale suburb. Beau Neilson purchased it in 2012 for A$3.1 million (about $2 million) with support from her parents before embarking on an extensive transformation. Working with MCK Architects, she converted the former warehouse into a luxury three-level residence featuring five bedrooms, four bathrooms, an indoor swimming pool, entertainment spaces, a studio, gallery areas, an office, solar power, hydronic heating and cooling systems, and a copper-clad internal lift. The distinctive home has been featured in several architecture and design publications. Neilson first listed the property for sale in August 2025 with an asking price of A$19 million before reducing the guide price to A$13 million in May 2026. The home was ultimately sold through a private deal on July 2 for a figure understood to be close to the revised asking price. The sale comes months after Neilson acquired a historic waterfront property in Sydney's Double Bay for approximately A$20 million, further expanding her presence in Australia's luxury property market. The transaction also follows another high-profile family real estate deal. In 2024, Beau's sister, Paris Neilson, sold her two-hectare estate in Terrey Hills for A$18.25 million, having purchased the property for A$5.25 million in 2009. The Neilson family's fortune was largely built by Kerr Neilson, who was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1949. After moving to Australia in the early 1980s, he co-founded Platinum Asset Management in 1994 with backing from American investor George Soros. The company grew into one of Australia's leading investment firms, helping establish Neilson as one of the country's wealthiest investors, with an estimated fortune exceeding A$1 billion. Judith Neilson, Kerr's former wife, is a Zimbabwe-born Australian billionaire, art patron and philanthropist. Beyond her investments, she is widely recognised for supporting healthcare, education and community development through the Judith Neilson Foundation, which funds projects in several African countries, including Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Zimbabwe and South Africa. While Beau and Paris Neilson are primarily known for their involvement in Australia's property, arts and cultural sectors rather than business ventures in Africa, their family's African heritage remains closely tied to one of Australia's most prominent fortunes. Beau Neilson's latest multimillion-dollar property sale further highlights the long-term value created through strategic investment in premium real estate.
