Iran has launched ballistic missiles at the US-run Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar in retaliation for recent US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, including those at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, which were reportedly targeted and damaged on Saturday. Qatar confirmed the missile attack on Monday, June 23, calling it a “flagrant violation” of its sovereignty. The Qatari government stated that all missiles were successfully intercepted and reported no casualties. It has temporarily closed its airspace as a precautionary measure, and both US and UK nationals in the country have been advised to shelter in place. In Washington, President Donald Trump and senior defense officials convened in the White House Situation Room amid escalating tensions. The Pentagon has confirmed that Al Udeid Air Base was targeted by a barrage of short- and medium-range ballistic missiles launched from Iranian territory. A US defense official noted that the base had been evacuated in advance and, as of now, there are no confirmed injuries or fatalities. Qatari media reported that at least six missiles were launched toward the base, which hosts approximately 13,000 US military personnel and serves as a key hub for US operations in the region. According to the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, security protocols were enacted promptly, ensuring the safety of all personnel on-site. Al Udeid Air Base, located southwest of Doha, has been a cornerstone of US-Qatar military cooperation since 2000. In 2001, the United States assumed operational control of the base, and in December 2002, both nations signed an agreement formalizing the American military presence at the facility. Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned what it described as an “unprovoked attack” carried out by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The ministry affirmed that Qatari air defense systems were effective in intercepting the missiles and reiterated Qatar’s commitment to regional stability. Regional tensions remain high, with international observers warning that further escalation could destabilize the Gulf and broader Middle East.
