FIA Annual General Assemblies and Awards

From December 10 to 13, Rwanda hosted the 2024 Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) Annual General Assemblies and Prize-Giving Ceremony.

From December 10 to 13, Rwanda hosted the 2024 Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) Annual General Assemblies and Prize-Giving Ceremony. This marked the first time the event, which celebrates the achievements of all FIA Champions over the past season, was held in Africa.

“For the very first time, the FIA General Assembly is being held in Africa. This is an important milestone, which signals the goal of the motorsport industry to connect directly with fans and aspiring drivers in Africa. In a world where various forces are pushing us apart, the values of sportsmanship should bring us closer together. Organized annually by the FIA, the event honors top drivers, manufacturers, and teams from championships such as the FIA Formula One World Championship, the FIA World Rally Championship, the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, the FIA World Endurance Championship, and others.

Biashara Africa 2024 Business Forum

The Biashara Africa 2024 Business Forum, also known as the AfCFTA Business Forum, took place from October 9 to 11 in Kigali. Organized by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), the forum brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and government representatives to promote African trade and foster economic growth. The theme for this year’s forum was "Dare to Invent the Future of the AfCFTA."

During the opening ceremony, President Paul Kagame of Rwanda, an AfCFTA champion, emphasized the importance of connectivity across the continent. “How well we adapt as Africa to crises depends on how strongly connected we are,” Kagame said, urging governments to strengthen governance and institutions while prioritizing the implementation of AfCFTA protocols on trade in goods, services, and movement of people for more efficient trade. The AfCFTA is the world’s largest free trade area, uniting the 55 countries of the African Union (AU) and eight regional economic communities. It aims to create a single continental market of about 1.3 billion people, with a combined GDP of approximately $3.4 trillion.

In October 2024, Kigali further cemented its status as a global meeting hub by hosting the Global Engineering Conference on Sustainable Development and the Executive Committee Meetings of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO).

Held from October 15 to 18 under the theme “Engineering Innovations for a Sustainable Future,” the conference brought together over 1,000 delegates, including engineers, researchers, industry experts, and specialists from around the world. Participants shared best practices, explored emerging technologies, and identified innovative solutions for a sustainable future.

Dr. Jimmy Gasore, Rwanda’s Minister of Infrastructure, remarked that Rwanda being the first country to host this gathering since WFEO’s establishment signifies a major milestone in its journey to becoming a leader in innovation and technological advancement.

Africa CEO Forum 2024

The Africa CEO Forum 2024 took place in Kigali on May 16 and 17, marking its 11th annual summit. This premier event brought together over 2,000 business leaders, CEOs, investors, heads of state, and ministers to discuss and shape Africa's economic future.

Africa Energy Expo

From November 4 to 6, Kigali hosted the Africa Energy Expo at the Kigali Convention Centre. This exhibition and summit convened stakeholders and senior decision-makers committed to addressing Africa’s energy and power infrastructure challenges, with the aim of advancing progress toward SDG7 (affordable and clean energy).

The expo focused on furthering the goals and objectives of the Africa Power Vision.
