Nigeria’s Falconets have been eliminated from the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Poland 2026™ after suffering a dramatic 1–0 defeat to Colombia in the quarter-finals on Sunday, September 20, at Stadion Miejski ŁKS Łódź. The match remained goalless for most of the contest, with both sides struggling to create clear-cut opportunities. Nigeria came closest in the first half when Tumininu Adeshina unleashed a powerful long-range effort, but Colombia goalkeeper Luisa Agudelo produced an important save to keep the game level. Colombia increased the pressure after the break, with Mariana Silva twice finding space behind the Nigerian defence, only for goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma to make crucial saves. Nigeria’s task became even more difficult in the 77th minute when Kafayat Mafisere was shown a red card for a high challenge on Samantha Rodriguez. With Nigeria down to 10 players, Colombia continued to push for the breakthrough. Their persistence finally paid off in the second minute of stoppage time when Valerin Loboa reacted quickest after her initial effort was blocked by Uzoma, bundling the rebound into the net to give Colombia a 1–0 victory. The defeat ends Nigeria’s World Cup campaign at the quarter-final stage, while Colombia advance to the semi-finals. Despite the disappointment, Nigeria coach Moses Aduku highlighted the tournament as an important platform for the development of the country’s young players, saying he had seen signs of a bright future for Nigerian football.

Heartbreak for Nigeria: Valerin Loboa’s 90+2nd-minute goal sent Colombia into the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup semi-finals.
