Kigali will host the Professional Fighters League (PFL) Africa Finals on December 12, with three championship bouts scheduled at BK Arena as fighters from across the continent compete for welterweight, lightweight and bantamweight titles.
The event, officially announced by PFL on October 23, will bring together six finalists representing Angola, Nigeria, Senegal and Liberia, with each division set to crown a new tournament champion.
In the welterweight final, Angola’s Shido “Machine” Boris Esperança (13-2) will face Nigeria’s undefeated David Samuel (7-0). Esperança secured his place with a first-round finish in the semi-finals, while Samuel advanced after winning his bout by decision.
Esperança said he and his team had worked hard to make his championship ambition a reality, while Samuel described reaching the final as a source of pride and vowed to complete his journey by winning the title.
The lightweight final will feature Nigeria’s Patrick “Star Boi” Ocheme (10-1) against Senegal’s Demba “Black Tiger” Seck (11-3). Ocheme reached the final after stopping his semi-final opponent with a first-round body kick, while Seck advanced to challenge for the 155-pound championship.
Ocheme promised an explosive performance, highlighting his finishing ability, while Seck expressed confidence in his technical skills and experience as he prepares for the decisive contest.
The bantamweight title will be contested by Liberia’s Dwight Joseph (17-3) and Nigeria’s Raphael Uchegbu (11-2). Joseph earned his place after a split-decision victory in the semi-finals, while Uchegbu enters the final aiming to add another championship achievement to his career.
Both fighters have expressed determination to leave Kigali with the title, setting up another competitive matchup on the card.
PFL Africa General Manager Elias Schulze said Kigali would take centre stage as the organisation crowns its next champions before a global audience, adding that the event would provide African mixed martial arts talent with an international platform.
PFL Rwanda will be broadcast across Africa on SuperSport for English-speaking audiences, Canal+ for French-speaking viewers and SportyTV on free-to-air television.
