President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the long-serving leader of Uganda, has once again been chosen by the National Resistance Movement (NRM) as its flag-bearer for the upcoming 2026 presidential election. At 80 years old, Museveni continues to show strength, dedication, and commitment to guiding the country through peace, development, and prosperity. In a message shared on X, President Museveni expressed his appreciation to the party. He said, “I want to thank the NRM Electoral Commission for nominating me.” He added, “I hope the whole membership of the NRM and its structures will support my candidature as the Chairman of the NRM for 2025–2031 and also as flag-bearer for the NRM in the Presidential contest for 2026–2031.” Museveni’s journey as Uganda’s president began in 1986 when he took office after years of struggle to bring peace and stability. Since then, he has led the country through major changes, improving security, building roads and schools, and promoting economic growth. In his message, President Museveni outlined his main focus areas if given another opportunity to lead. “We shall continue to emphasize the 6 words below in the next term if given the opportunity,” he wrote. These include peace, development, wealth, jobs, services, and markets. He explained that peace means no war and no crime. Development will remain a priority to help Uganda grow further. Wealth creation, he emphasized, must happen in every home because “It is personal and private.” He also promised to continue working to create more jobs for the people, improve services such as health, education, and spirituality, and build stronger markets for Ugandan goods and services.
