Two women have died in the devastating floods affecting large parts of North Queensland, according to Queensland Premier David Crisafulli. More than 7,000 homes are without power, and supermarket supplies are being rationed as the floods continue to wreak havoc. On Sunday, a woman in her 60s died in Ingham when the rescue boat she was in capsized after hitting a tree. Since Saturday, parts of North Queensland have received more than 1.2 meters of rain, forcing hundreds to evacuate. About 6,500 homes remain without power. Another 100 homes were expected to be submerged by Tuesday morning, with Premier Crisafulli describing the devastation as "quite frankly incredible." Prime Minister Anthony Albanese told Parliament on Tuesday that he had been in contact with Crisafulli. “Tragically, another Queenslander has lost their life in the North Queensland floods,” Crisafulli said. "I want to assure the House that in this challenging time, we stand shoulder to shoulder with the Queensland government and every Queenslander," Albanese said. "We have already discussed the need to build back better in some cases rather than repeating past mistakes, and we will engage constructively on these issues."
