In a significant move to support the rehabilitation of youth offenders, the Queensland Labor government has pledged $4 million in funding over four years to a Gold Coast not-for-profit organization if re-elected next month. This funding aims to empower the "Everything Suarve" program, which has been instrumental in transforming the lives of disengaged young people facing difficult circumstances. The Everything Suarve program is a 10-week initiative designed to help young individuals who come from challenging backgrounds, often marked by violence, drug and alcohol abuse, and broken family environments. Many participants are fresh out of juvenile detention, struggling to find a path forward. The program focuses on equipping these youths with life skills, self-discipline, and employment opportunities to reintegrate them into society positively. The impact of Everything Suarve is evident. Over 90 per cent of its graduates have either secured employment or returned to school, demonstrating the program’s success in helping participants build constructive lives. Moreover, 79 per cent of graduates have ceased offending within 12 months of completing the program, showcasing its effectiveness in reducing recidivism among at-risk youth. The proposed funding commitment underscores the Queensland Labor government's dedication to investing in community-led initiatives that provide tangible support and opportunities for young people at risk. This support will enable the organization to expand its reach and continue to deliver life-changing outcomes for youth offenders on the Gold Coast. If re-elected, the Labor government’s investment will not only bolster the future of the Everything Suarve program but will also contribute to the broader effort of creating a safer and more inclusive community by addressing the root causes of youth crime and providing a structured path to rehabilitation and personal growth. As the election approaches, this funding pledge is a reminder of the vital role community programs play in reshaping the futures of vulnerable young people and the importance of continued governmental support to sustain and grow these impactful initiatives.
