Rwanda international midfielder Ruboneka Jean Bosco has found a new home in Libya, signing for Al-Tahaddi SC Benghazi after leaving APR FC. The 27-year-old has agreed to a one-year contract with the Libyan top-flight side, beginning a new chapter after his contract with APR FC expired at the end of last season. Ruboneka was among the players who left APR FC during the summer as the club and the midfielder failed to reach an agreement over a contract extension. That opened the door for him to explore opportunities elsewhere, including outside Rwanda. Rayon Sports was previously linked with the midfielder, but talks did not lead to a move. Ruboneka instead opted for a foreign challenge, with Al-Tahaddi becoming his next destination. Founded in 1954, Al-Tahaddi is one of Libya’s historic clubs. The Benghazi-based side has won the Libyan league title three times, although its last championship came in 1997. For Ruboneka, the transfer also marks a move away from a club where he spent six seasons. He joined APR FC in 2020 from AS Muhanga, having first moved to the Muhanga side in 2016. The midfielder remains part of the wider Rwanda national-team setup, although he was not selected for the latest Amavubi squad that secured victories over Liberia and Cape Verde in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign. In Libya, Ruboneka will not be the only Rwandan player. Nshuti Innocent, who plays for Al Wefaq Ajdabiya, and Nsabimana Aimable, of Assabah SC, are also continuing their careers in the country. Ruboneka’s move adds another Rwandan name to the growing list of players seeking opportunities beyond the domestic league, with his performances in Libya now likely to determine how quickly he can return to the national-team picture.
