Rwanda participated in the Coffee Europe Expo 2025, held at the Ptak Warsaw Expo in Nadarzyn, Poland, becoming the first African country to take part since the event's inception ten years ago. The expo, which ran from May 27 to 29, 2025, brought together industry leaders and innovators, providing a platform to showcase the latest advancements in coffee production, roasting, brewing, and retail. At the opening ceremony, Rwanda was recognized as the partner country. Represented by the Rwandan Embassy in Poland and several private sector companies, Rwanda’s participation underscores its growing prominence in the global coffee market. Prof. Anastase Shyaka, Rwanda’s Ambassador to Poland, noted that Rwanda’s designation as a partner country reflects the organizers’ recognition of the country’s rising influence in the coffee industry. “This shows that the organizers attach great importance to Rwanda, and we thank them for that,” he told IGIHE. “Rwanda’s participation is a clear sign that the host country values our partnership and views Rwanda as a nation actively engaging traders,” he added. Tomasz Szypuła, Chairman of the Board of Ptak Warsaw Expo, warmly welcomed Rwanda as the event’s partner country, emphasizing the strengthening ties of solidarity and friendship between Poland and Rwanda. He also expressed hope for enhanced cooperation to boost Rwanda’s competitiveness in Poland and Central and Eastern Europe, while promoting Polish trade in Rwanda. Rwanda is renowned for its high-quality Arabica coffee, cultivated in fertile, mountainous regions with ideal growing conditions. The country is home to numerous cooperatives and farmers who emphasize sustainable practices and unique flavor profiles. Coffee is a major contributor to Rwanda’s agricultural export revenues. In the 2022/2023 fiscal year, Rwanda exported just over 20,000 tonnes of coffee, earning $115.9 million (approximately Rwf147 billion). This marked a 53.39% increase in revenue compared to the $75.5 million earned from more than 15,000 tonnes exported in the previous fiscal year, according to data from the National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB).
