Former Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) President Shema Ngoga Fabrice has said he will continue following football matches, attending stadiums, and supporting Rwanda’s national team, Amavubi, despite leaving his leadership position.
He made the remarks on Thursday, October 29, 2026, during a handover ceremony with FERWAFA’s interim president, Me. Claudine Gasarabwe, at the federation’s headquarters.
Shema said he would remain involved in football even though he was no longer leading FERWAFA. He also expressed hope that Rwanda would qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations.
“I am not leaving football. I will come to the stadium, watch matches, and support Amavubi at different times. I believe we will reach the Africa Cup of Nations,” he said.
His remarks show that he wants to continue supporting football even after leaving his leadership role. However, he has not yet explained in detail what role he hopes to play in the development of football in Rwanda.
Shema resigned as FERWAFA president on September 29, 2026. Elections to choose his replacement are scheduled for January 2027.
After receiving the handover, interim president Claudine Gasarabwe said FERWAFA would continue working towards its planned goals, improve its operations, and promote the development of football in Rwanda.
