U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Iran and Israel have agreed to a “complete and total ceasefire,” following a limited missile attack by Iran on a U.S. military base in Qatar. Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, stating that the ceasefire would take effect “approximately six hours” from the time of his post, which was made at 6:00 p.m. local time in Washington, D.C. "It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE," Trump wrote. Shortly after Trump’s statement, Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi posted on X , indicating that Iran had no intention of escalating the conflict further provided Israel ceased its military actions. “As Iran has repeatedly made clear: Israel launched war on Iran, not the other way around,” Araghchi wrote. “If Israel stops its illegal aggression now, Iran has no intention to continue our response afterwards.” Despite the ceasefire announcement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported another round of missile attacks from Iran on Tuesday morning local time. The barrage sent Israeli civilians scrambling into bomb shelters at dawn, with Israel’s Magen David Adom rescue services reporting at least four fatalities and eight injuries. The latest escalation began on June 13, when Israeli warplanes conducted airstrikes on Tehran, reportedly killing several high-ranking Iranian military officials. Among those killed were the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, the Commander of the Revolutionary Guard, and the head of Emergency Command. Multiple nuclear scientists were also reportedly among the casualties. In response, Iran launched ballistic missiles on Monday, June 23, targeting the U.S.-run Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. The strikes were in retaliation for earlier American bombings of key Iranian nuclear sites, including Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, which were reportedly damaged in the attacks. According to Iran’s Health Ministry, Israeli strikes have killed at least 400 people and injured over 3,000 in recent days. Iranian retaliatory attacks have resulted in at least 24 deaths in Israel.
