During the briefing, Trump expressed disappointment with Putin’s conduct in Ukraine, despite several phone calls between them aimed at ending the ongoing three-year war between Ukraine and Russia. Trump, who has previously faced criticism for being lenient toward Russia and for suspending military aid to Ukraine at times, recently said he had initially given Russia 50 days to stop the war. But if he goes ahead with it, it will mean the destruction of Russia!” Trump said he may make another announcement soon, stating there's no reason to delay further action if Putin continues to reject peace talks. “I always think it’s about to end, then he [Putin] kills more people. I’m not very interested in talking… we’ll see what happens,” Trump said. Andriy Yermak, Chief of Staff to the Ukrainian President, welcomed Trump’s decision to shorten the initial 50-day ultimatum, calling it a sign of increased urgency. Since February 2022, Russia has been at war with Ukraine , a conflict that has drawn in numerous allied nations on both sides. As of now, Russia controls approximately 20% of Ukrainian territory, including Crimea, which it annexed in 2014.
