Tshisekedi Announces War Plans Against Rwanda

Spread the love

In a recent announcement, DRC President Felix Tshisekedi declared his intention to seek parliamentary authorization to declare war on Rwanda. Speaking in Kinshasa, Tshisekedi emphasized a shift in the DRC’s approach, stating, “Tell Kagame that I am unlike the former leaders of the DRC he used to have fun with. The DRC has changed. I will respond to any provocation.

The rising tensions stem from accusations between the two nations. Kinshasa alleges that Kigali supports M23 rebels to destabilize eastern Congo, a claim Rwanda denies. In turn, Kigali accuses Kinshasa of arming the genocidal militia group FDLR to terrorize Tutsi communities in North Kivu and launch attacks within Rwanda.

The deteriorating relations have escalated to direct threats, with Tshisekedi asserting, “Paul Kagame can play with everyone, but not with Félix Tshisekedi.” This hostile environment raises concerns about a potential military confrontation, prompting warnings from international representatives about the volatile situation in North Kivu.

While the U.S. recently brokered a deal for both nations to withdraw forces, Tshisekedi’s announcement indicates ongoing challenges, underscoring the fragility of the region’s stability.
