UNMISS Force Commander appreciates Rwandan peacekeepers in South Sudan

 The Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), Lt Gen Mohan Subramanian,

appreciated the commitment of the Rwandan peacekeepers in all the operations they undertake.

On 17th April, 2024, Lt Gen Mohan paid a visit to the Rwandan Peacekeepers (Rwanbatt-3) at their headquarters situated in Durupi Base camp in Juba, South Sudan. 

The Contingent Commander, Col John Tyson SESONGA, warmly welcomed him and delivered a briefing on the operations conducted since their arrival.

The Rwanda Defense forces in statement stated that during their interaction, the Force Commander conveyed his appreciation for the commitment of the Rwandan peacekeepers in all the operations they undertake, particularly in safeguarding civilians, emphasizing their outstanding professional competence and dedication displayed in challenging areas of responsibility, as well as their efforts in securing IDP camps. 

The Force Commander encouraged the force to sustain their momentum to fulfill their mandate.

The visit concluded with a symbolic act of planting a tree, promoting a culture of environmental conservation initiatives.

Rwanda is currently the 3rd largest Police and Troop contributor to UN Peacekeeping operations. Rwandan peacekeepers are currently engaged in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).
