Weather Agency predicts a reduction in rainfall

The Rwanda Meteorology Agency announced on Tuesday that there will be a reduction in rainfall during the third dekad of May 2024. The amount of rainfall ranging between 0 and 70 mm is expected across the country.

“The main factors influencing rainfall in this dekad are the tropical storm in the Indian Ocean and local factors,” the agency revealed.

Rainfall ranging between 60 and 70 mm is the highest expected over many parts of Rutsiro, Ngororero, Rubavu, Nyabihu, Musanze and Burera Districts.

Rainfall ranging between 50 and 60 mm is expected in remaining parts of Rutsiro, Ngororero and Nyabihu, central parts of Burera and Musanze Districts, many parts of Karongi, Nyamasheke and Rusizi, western parts of Nyamagabe and Nyaruguru Districts, and northwestern parts of Gakenke District.

The Weather Agency predicts rainfall ranging between 0 and 10 mm over many parts of Bugesera, Ngoma and Kirehe District, and eastern parts of Kayonza, Gatsibo and Nyagatare Districts.

The remaining parts of the country are expected to experience rainfall ranging between 20 and 50 mm.

Forecast of wind speed

Moderate to slightly strong wind speed ranging between 4 and 8 m/s is expected across the country.

Moderate wind speed ranging between 4 and 6 m/s (green colour) is expected in many parts of the country except in parts of Nyagatare, Gatsibo, Gicumbi, Nyamasheke and Rusizi Districts where slightly strong wind speed ranging between 6 and 8 m/s (yellow colour) is predicted.

Temperature forecast

During the 3rd dekad of May 2024, the average maximum temperature is expected to range between 18°C and 28°C, which is in the range of LTM maximum temperature of the 3rd dekad of May.

Bugesera District, Southern parts of Rusizi, eastern parts of Huye, Gisagara, Nyanza, Ruhango, Kamonyi, Nyagatare, Gatsibo and Kayonza Districts, western parts of Ngoma and Rwamagana, and many parts of Kigali city are expected to experience higher maximum temperature ranging between 26°C and 28°C.

Many parts of Nyabihu District, eastern parts of Rubavu, northern parts of Musanze and Burera Districts are expected to experience lower maximum temperatures ranging between 18°C and 20°C.
