The Rwanda Cycling Federation, FERWACY, is partnering with The Chancellery for Heroes National Orders and Decorations of Honour, CHENO, to celebrate National Heroes Day by organizing a cycling competition called the ‘Heroes Cycling Cup’.

On Friday, January 12, 2024, FERWACY announced that there will be a cycling competition two weeks before Rwandan Heroes Day.

Every February 1, Rwanda celebrates Heroes’ Day to remember and reflect on those who have done good deeds for the country.

Different people and Sports Federations organize different tournaments. This year, there will be a cycling race scheduled for January 20, 2024, in the city of Kigali.

The cyclists will go around the designated area 11 times at a distance of 11km in the Men Elites and Under 23 category, equal to 121km. The Men Junior and Women Elites will go around 8 laps, equal to 88km, while the Women Junior will go around 5 laps, equal to 55km.

This race is going to be played for the fourth time since 2020 when it was first played and won by Habimana Jean Eric and Ingabire Diane.

In 2021, it was not played due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, and in 2022, it was not played in the Elites category but was played in the Under 18 category.

The last successful race was in 2023 and was won by Etienne Tuyizere in the men’s category and Xaverine Nirere in the women’s category.
