Singapore: Rwandan community commemorates the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi

Around 200 people gathered at the Nanyang School of Business Gaia Auditorium in Singapore for the 30th commemoration of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.

Rwanda’s Embassy stated that members of the diplomatic corps, senior business executives, the Rwandan community living in Singapore, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) staff and students, and dozens of friends of Rwanda were in attendance.

The Embassy added that seventeen staff and students from the Rwanda Defence Force Command and Staff College, who are on a study tour in Singapore, also attended the event.

The event featured a panel discussion moderated by Nanyang Technological University Centre for African Studies Director, Amit Jain, with four discussants: British investigative journalist and author Linda Melvern, former ICTR Prosecutor Jonathan Moses, Genocide survivor and National Unity Award recipient Jean Nepo Sibomana, and the High Commissioner of Rwanda in Singapore, Jean De Dieu Uwihanganye.

From 7th April 2024, Rwanda started the national commemoration week and the 100 days for the 30th commemoration of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.
