The United Kingdom government, UK, has decided to suspend the 8% tariff that was previously applied to flowers exported from Rwanda.

According to a statement released on Thursday, April 11, the objective of this tariff suspension is to enhance flower trade between Rwanda and the UK.

The suspension of the 8% duty for cut flowers applies globally, but it will particularly benefit major flower-growing regions in Rwanda and other East African countries.

This duty suspension will be in effect for a period of two years, starting from April 11, 2024, and ending on June 30, 2026.

Reports indicate that in 2023, Rwanda exported flowers to the UK with a value of 1.1 billion Frw.
