Despite a US-backed ceasefire, civilians in Gaza continue to face deadly violence, with airstrikes, shootings, and exposure-related deaths reported across the territory. Despite a US-backed ceasefire, civilians in Gaza continue to face deadly violence, with airstrikes, shootings, and exposure-related deaths reported across the territory. Health officials say at least 406 people have been killed and more than 1,000 injured since the ceasefire began on 10 October. Among the dead are infants, including a five-month-old baby killed in an Israeli strike on a school shelter and a 29-day-old infant who died of hypothermia in a displacement tent. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) continue operations during the ceasefire, enforcing a shifting “yellow line” marking Israeli military control. Human rights monitors say the line now covers over 53% of Gaza, restricting civilian movement and exposing residents including children to sniper fire, drone strikes, and shelling. Satellite analysis shows Israeli military positions have expanded deeper into Gaza since the ceasefire took effect. International journalists remain barred from independently reporting from the territory. The United Nations says 85% of Gaza’s buildings are damaged or destroyed, with nearly two million people displaced. Reconstruction remains blocked, as Israel has confirmed that no rebuilding materials are currently allowed into Gaza under the existing agreement. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz has stated that Israeli forces “will never leave Gaza,” while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to discuss the next phase of the peace plan with former US President Donald Trump in Florida. For many Palestinians, the ceasefire has brought little relief only a continuation of suffering under a different name.
