The police of the Democratic Republic of Congo, DRC, fired tear gas to disperse the protesters in the capital Kinshasa who are demanding that the results of the elections be annulled and repeated.

On December 20, the DRC held elections for the President, local authorities, and parliamentarians. It is a controversial election because some candidates say that the election was not conducted properly due to the necessary materials not being delivered to the polling stations, among other reasons that they claim made the election unsuccessful.

On Wednesday, December 27, the DRC Police in Kinshasa dispersed the protesters demanding that the National Election Commission (CENI) invalidate the elections.

Most of the protesters gathered at the office of Martin Madidi Fayulu, who was campaigning as a presidential candidate, and they block the roads with burning tires and throwing stones.

Government spokesperson Patrick Muyaya Katembwe stated that the protest is illegal and the Police are trying to stop it.

The counting of the votes for the election results is still ongoing. However, the information states that President Tshisekedi is in the lead with 79% of the 6.1 million votes that have been counted.
