A second woman told an Oslo court Tuesday that Marius Borg Høiby, 29-year-old son of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit, raped her while she slept—calling it her "worst nightmare." The alleged assault happened October 8, 2023, after an after-party in an apartment in Norway's Lofoten Islands during a surfing trip (with his stepfather Crown Prince Haakon present). The woman met Høiby on Tinder; they had consensual sex initially. She testified she woke up to find him having non-consensual sex with her. A second woman told an Oslo court Tuesday that Marius Borg Høiby, 29-year-old son of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit, raped her while she slept—calling it her "worst nightmare."
The alleged assault happened October 8, 2023, after an after-party in an apartment in Norway's Lofoten Islands during a surfing trip (with his stepfather Crown Prince Haakon present). The woman met Høiby on Tinder; they had consensual sex initially. She testified she woke up to find him having non-consensual sex with her.
"I remember waking up when he was already underway," she said. "I thought, 'I don't understand how someone can have sex with someone who's sleeping.'" She closed her eyes "so I wouldn't have to take part in my own assault."
Prosecutors presented strong evidence:
A 5-second video Høiby filmed on his phone (found during a police search) showing the woman asleep during the act—she says she never knew it was recorded (a separate filming charge).
Data from her fitness watch confirming she was asleep at the time.
Høiby appeared pale and trembling in court. He denies the rape charges, claiming all sexual encounters were consensual. His defense argues the encounters were "perfectly normal."
He faces 38 charges total, including:
Raping four women (between 2018 and 2024, often after consensual sex when victims were asleep or incapacitated).
Assaulting ex-girlfriends.
Transporting 3.5 kg (about 7.7 lbs) of marijuana.
Death threats.
Traffic violations and more.
He pleaded not guilty to the most serious charges (including rapes and unauthorized filming) but admitted partial guilt to some lesser ones (e.g., drugs, restraining order breaches, aggravated assault). If convicted on the rapes, he could face up to 16 years in prison.
Last week, the first alleged victim testified about a 2018 rape at an after-party in the basement of his parents' royal estate (Skaugum) outside Oslo—she described a "black hole" in her memory and suspected drugging (which Høiby denies).
The high-profile trial, shaking Norway's royal family, continues until March. Høiby has no royal title or duties—he's Crown Princess Mette-Marit's son from a pre-marriage relationship (before she wed Crown Prince Haakon in 2001).
